YOUTH GROUPS

For countless children with learning difficulties, schooldays are often not “the best years of their lives.” Too often, they feel different from everybody else, misunderstood and isolated. They want to chat, laugh and be part of the gang – but just don’t know how. Finding it hard to make friends, they typically go through life feeling ostracised and alone.

"These groups give teens the opportunity to meet others with similar difficulties to their own and socialise in the safe setting of our new recreation and adult learning centre."

That’s why Langdon has set up two youth groups, one for 12 to 15 year olds and the other for 15 to 18 year olds, to reach out at an earlier age. These groups give teens the opportunity to meet others with similar difficulties to their own and socialise in the safe setting of our new recreation and adult learning centre, The Quadrant.

Each group will meet in the evenings to avoid clashes with the school or college day and trained youth leaders will lead the drop-in sessions. These will run for a maximum of two hours and incorporate a mix of free time, sports tournaments and some training in basic living and social skills. Our teens will be able to enjoy activities such as snooker, table tennis, table football, karaoke and Wii games.

Please note that The Quadrant will not be open and fully operational until spring 2012 when all services mentioned will begin
