OUR STORY

Langdon was founded in 1992 by four parents of children with learning difficulties who found there were no organisations that enabled young adults with similar needs to lead an independent life.

The charity’s founders had firsthand knowledge of the special challenges their children faced in leading the independent life that their peers took for granted. They recognised that young adults with mild to moderate learning difficulties need extra help and support with everyday living and that, without it, their children – and others like them – would simply slip through the net.

"Our goal is to ensure the young people we support have the same opportunities as their peers.."

From those early beginnings, Langdon’s services have steadily grown and we now help over 100 young Jewish people. Today, we provide supported living accommodation in both London and Manchester, equip young adults with life and vocational skills at our college in Manchester and reach out to those with learning difficulties in the wider community through our active social programme.

Our goal is to ensure the young people we support have the same opportunities as their peers to experience the satisfaction that comes from a good day’s work and the chance to enjoy a full social life. We are proud that 95% of our residents lead independent lives that, without Langdon, their parents could only dream about.
